CapabilitiesCNC machining capabilities in Vietnam
This is what the shops in our network run, and what they hold when they run it. Every figure here is typical rather than promised. The numbers that apply to your part are confirmed on your quote, against your drawing.
Machining processes and what each one suits
| Process | What it suits | Typical tolerance | Send this with it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-axis milling | Brackets, plates, housings and manifolds with features on one or two faces. | ±0.05 mm general, ±0.02 mm on called-out features | STEP plus a PDF drawing for anything toleranced. Mark the datum faces. |
| 4-axis and 5-axis milling | Angled faces, impellers, valve bodies, parts that would otherwise need four setups. | ±0.03 mm typical, true position from 0.05 mm | STEP plus GD&T. Say which datum matters most, and whether 3+2 indexing is acceptable. |
| Turning and mill-turn | Shafts, pins, fittings, threaded bodies, anything round with driven-tool features. | ±0.02 mm on diameters, ±0.01 mm on ground seats | Thread standard, surface finish and whether the bar stock grade can be substituted. |
| Wire and sinker EDM | Hardened details, sharp internal corners, tool and die inserts. | ±0.01 mm | Material condition and hardness after heat treat, plus the corner radius you can accept. |
| Surface and cylindrical grinding | Flat or round parts that need a fine finish or a tight parallel. | ±0.005 mm, Ra 0.4 achievable | Finish called out on the drawing itself, not in the email body. |
| Finishing and treatment | Anodising, plating, passivation, black oxide, bead blast, powder coat, heat treatment, laser marking. | To the named standard | The spec you want held, plus what to mask. Finishing runs in series with machining, so it adds days. |

Metals and plastics we machine
Availability decides your delivery date more often than machining does, so it is the first thing we check when a drawing arrives.
| Family | Grades we run | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium | 6061, 6063, 7075, 5083 | 6061 and 6063 are on the shelf. 7075 with notice. Anodises well. |
| Stainless | 303, 304, 316, 416, 17-4 PH | 304 and 316 stocked. Passivation available and worth specifying. |
| Steel | S45C, S50C, SCM440, SS400 | Stocked. Plating or black oxide for corrosion resistance. |
| Tool steel | SKD11, SKD61 | With notice. Hardened features usually finished by EDM or grinding. |
| Titanium | Grade 2, Grade 5 | With notice. Slower to cut, so quantity changes the price more than usual. |
| Copper and brass | C1100, C3604 | Stocked. Good surface finish, watch burrs on thin features. |
| Engineering plastics | POM, nylon, PTFE, PEEK, HDPE, PC | POM and nylon stocked. PEEK is imported to order. |

Surface finishing and treatment
Finishing runs in series with machining, not in parallel, so it adds days to the lead time rather than hours. We quote it as its own line.
- AnodisingType II in black, clear and colours, Type III hard anodise for wear surfaces. Masking on request.
- PlatingZinc, nickel and electroless nickel, with the thickness called out on the drawing.
- PassivationFor stainless, to a named standard such as ASTM A967. Not a coating, a treatment.
- Blasting and tumblingGlass bead or aluminium oxide for a uniform matte finish, vibratory finishing on small parts at volume.
- Powder coat and paintTough and thick, for parts where nothing has to fit through the coated surface.
- Heat treatmentHardening, tempering and stress relief, with critical surfaces machined or ground afterwards.
- Laser markingPart numbers, logos and data matrix codes, on a surface you nominate.
Part size and quantity
- Milled partsUp to roughly 800 x 600 x 400 mm. Larger is possible and the shop list gets short, so ask before you design around it.
- Turned partsUp to roughly 300 mm diameter, bar work from 3 mm up.
- QuantityOne-off prototypes through to 5,000 pieces per release, and repeat orders on a blanket schedule.
- WeightParts that two people can lift. Above that, freight rather than machining decides whether this route makes sense.
Work we will not take
Saying this here saves you a week.
- A prototype needed in three daysFreight alone eats that. A shop near you will be cheaper once you count the air waybill.
- Work that needs AS9100, ITAR or implant-grade approvalWe do not hold those approvals and we will not take the order. Say it early and we will save you a week.
- Die casting, forging, sheet metal or MIMDifferent industry, different tooling. We take machining and the finishing around it.
- Parts you cannot describe without a callIf the geometry is still moving, a quote from it will move too.
- Orders under a few hundred dollarsFreight and bank charges swallow the saving. Ask us and we will tell you honestly.
About capabilities
What CNC machining capabilities are available in Vietnam?
3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis milling, CNC turning and mill-turn, wire and sinker EDM, surface and cylindrical grinding, plus the finishing around them. Capacity is deepest in 3-axis milling and turning, and thinner in simultaneous 5-axis and large-envelope work.
What tolerances can you hold?
Routinely ±0.05 mm general and ±0.02 mm on called-out features in milling, ±0.02 mm on turned diameters, ±0.01 mm reamed and ±0.005 mm ground. Anything tighter narrows the network to shops with the right inspection room, which we confirm on the quote rather than promise on a web page.
What is the largest part you can machine?
Around 800 x 600 x 400 mm for milled parts and 300 mm diameter for turned parts is comfortable. Beyond that we will tell you whether it is workable before you spend time on a drawing package.
Do you take casting, forging or sheet metal?
No. We take machining and the finishing around it. If your assembly needs a fabricated part as well, say so and we will tell you plainly whether we can be useful or not.
